How Paris Olympic Medal 2024 Looks and Story behind Medals

The athletes now know what their reward is if they place on the podium at the next Olympic Games that is organised in Paris, which start in a few short months. The Paris Olympic Medal including Paralympic medal were revealed on Thursday, February 8. Furthermore, each one, regardless of its color—gold, silver, or bronze—will include a unique metal fragment that was originally a part of the Eiffel Tower.

The exceptional project responsible for the Olympic and Paralympic medals scheduled for Paris in 2024 has finally been made public.

On Thursday, February 8, at the Paris 2024 Organising Committee headquarters, the Paris Olympic Medal that will be given to the athletes competing in the Games were revealed.

Paris Olympic Medal

As is customary, there are three medals: gold, silver, and bronze. But unlike any of the roughly 36,600 medals that have been given out since the first modern Olympic Games were held in Athens in 1896, these will all be emblazoned with a little piece of Paris and the Eiffel Tower, which represents France.

As Tony Estanguet, President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee, explains, the decision was made with the intention of making these objects special and one-of-a-kind.

“There was a huge amount done to try to bring together these precious metals – gold, silver and bronze – with the most precious metal in the Eiffel Tower, the jewel in the French crown. So what’s specific about the 2024 medals is that meshing together, that fusion, that alloy…”

“What’s impactful for this year will be having a part of the original Eiffel Tower metal, the iron, in these various medals, and so this is what we wanted to do, to infuse all these 2024 athletes with that metal.” the statement reads.

At the centre of a brilliant medal is the hexagon-shaped piece of metal of Eiffel Tower

The hexagonal design on each medal was cut from original iron from the Eiffel Tower, a shape so symbolic of France that it was given its own nickname. This emblem honours the nation’s mobilization to host the historic Olympic and Paralympic Games, extending beyond its capital. The puddled iron has been left in its original color, unpainted in its typical “Eiffel Tower brown” hue. Embossed with the Paris 2024 Games emblem, this historical artifact is positioned in the centre and blends seamlessly with the gold, silver, and bronze medals to create a two-tone effect.

Thin lines are projected around the iron hexagon at irregular intervals on the same side. A medal that is far from smooth is given relief and shine by these rays that are struck rather than engraved. This brilliant concept captures the glory of France in the world as well as the athletes’ brilliant performances during the Games.

Following the announcement of a distinctive logo, two mascots, a shared appearance, and a single torch. The Olympic and Paralympic medals for Paris 2024 now have a single side featuring the same design—the side featuring the Eiffel Tower’s iron.

The names of the sport, the discipline, and the event are all engraved on the periphery of Olympic and Paralympic medals. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) have designated these inscriptions to be in French for Olympic medals and English for Paralympic medals.
